In 1914, Leslie Pickens first hitched his wagon and began expressing baggage between Chicago's train depots and the Gold Coast. That same year James Kane began his moving and storage company and would continue to help form Allied Van Lines. The Pickens-Kane of today encompasses several divisions that are specifically trained and equipped to meet your exacting requirements.

Mike Munroe purchased Pickens Movers in 1946 and continued to expand the business of local moving and cartage to include delivery of commercial goods. Daily pick-ups from the rail yards to the Marts were added to storage and delivery to retail stores in the Chicago area.

In 1951, Kane Storage Co. was purchased and merged to form Pickens-Kane Moving & Storage. Co. With the purchase of Kane came the operating authority of Allied Van Lines and the ability to offer interstate moving services. Pickens-Kane continued to purchase additional storage and distribution faculties to better service the demand for storage and distribution of new products, storage of household goods, exhibits and commercial tenants.

During the 1970's Pickens-Kane became the largest commercial mover in Chicago. In 1987, Pickens-Kane Records Management Services division was established. This division offers a computerized inventory system, private viewing room, and a complete disposal program. The Records Retention trucks are radio dispatched and backed up by the entire Pickens-Kane fleet.

The holding company, Pickens-Kane Enterprises was created in 1991. PKE performs facility services such as installation of furniture and furniture refinishing. Allied Van Lines Special Products Division moved into its new Addison facility in 1993 to service the need for high cube storage space. Also during 1993, the Pickens-Kane Arts Services division was established. This division offers museum quality care of valuable artwork, antiques, furniture, classic automobiles and other high value passions. Pickens-Kane operates the largest climate controlled storage facility of its kind in Chicagoland.
